WI-FI & SETUP

• 1. THE PET TUTOR® NETWORK DOESN’T APPEARProblem: PetTutorSetup_192_168_4_1 does not appear in your phone or tablet’s Wi-Fi settings.
  Solution: Make sure your Pet Tutor® Mini is powered on and the blue power light is on. Wait about a minute for the setup network to appear. If you still don’t see the network, use the Bluetooth Setup instructions to connect to your Mini.
• 2. MY MINI WON’T CONNECT TO WI-FISolution: Double-check that:
  • Your Wi-Fi network name is correct.
  • Your Wi-Fi password is correct.
  • There are no extra spaces before or after the information.
  • You selected the 2.4 GHz network if your router has separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks.
  • Your MQTT User is your Pet Tutor® account email.
  • Your MQTT Password is pettutor.
  • Your MQTT Guest Password is doggy.
• 3. THE FEEDING PANEL ISN’T WORKINGSolution: First, confirm that your Mini successfully connected to Wi-Fi and MQTT. You should hear two beeps: the first confirms the Wi-Fi connection and the second confirms the MQTT connection. Then reconnect your phone, tablet, or computer to your normal internet connection and reload the Feeding Panel.
• 4. THE FEEDING PANEL IS SLOW OR WON’T LOADSolution: Make sure your phone, tablet, or computer is connected to your normal internet connection. If the Feeding Panel still won’t load, refresh the page and try again.

FEEDING & TREAT PROBLEMS

• 5. MY MINI IS DISPENSING TOO MANY TREATSSolution: If you are using small food or treats, make sure the Small Treat Adapter is installed correctly. You may also need to reduce the Tumbler Stepper Angle in the Feeding Panel. The Tumbler Stepper Angle controls how far the motor rotates when the Mini dispenses.

  ADJUST THE TUMBLER STEPPER ANGLE

  1. OPEN SETTINGS
     Open the Settings tab in the Feeding Panel.
  2. CHANGE TUMBLER STEPPER ANGLE
     Click on Settings via messages to your feeder devices. Click on Refresh Names. Select your feeder in the drop down. Enter a number where it says 45. Click the button that says Tumbler Dispenser Angle.
     NOTE: Trigger the Mini and check how many treats are dispensed. You may need to try several different angles until the Mini dispenses the desired amount.

• 6. MY MINI ISN’T DISPENSING ENOUGH TREATSSolution: Make sure you are using dry food or treats and that the Small Treat Adapter is installed correctly if needed. If you recently switched between the Tumbler and UNO, make sure the Mini is set to the correct dispensing mode. You may also need to adjust the Stepper Angle to change how much the motor rotates when dispensing.
• 7. MY MINI DISPENSES DIFFERENTLY EACH TIMESolution: The amount dispensed can vary depending on the size and type of food or treats you are using. Make sure the Small Treat Adapter is installed correctly when using small treats. If the amount continues to vary, check your Stepper Angle setting and adjust it as needed.
• 8. I INSTALLED THE UNO, BUT MY MINI IS STILL USING THE TUMBLER SETTINGSSolution: After installing the UNO, you must change the canister type in the Feeding Panel.
  1. OPEN SETTINGS
     Open the Settings tab in the Feeding Panel.
  2. OPEN FEEDER SETTINGS
     Click Settings via Messages to your feeder devices.
  3. RELOAD YOUR DEVICES
     Click Reload Agent.
  4. SELECT YOUR MINI
     Under Selected Device Name, select your Pet Tutor® Mini from the drop-down menu.
  5. SELECT UNO
     In the canister type field, select or enter UNO.
  6. SAVE THE SETTING
     Click Set Canister Type.
  Your Mini is now set to use the UNO.

BLUETOOTH / BLE SCANNER

• 9. WHY DO I NEED BLE SCANNER 4.0?Solution: BLE Scanner 4.0 is used to connect directly to your Pet Tutor® Mini through Bluetooth. You may need BLE Scanner if you cannot find the PetTutorSetup_192_168_4_1 Wi-Fi network during setup. It allows you to access the Mini and clear its saved Wi-Fi credentials so you can try the Wi-Fi setup again. See Bluetooth Setup for step-by-step instructions.
• 10. I CAN’T FIND PTFEEDER IN BLE SCANNERSolution: Make sure your Pet Tutor® Mini is powered on and the blue power light is on. Open BLE Scanner 4.0 and look through the list of available Bluetooth devices for PTFeeder. If PTFeeder does not appear, make sure you are close to the Mini and try refreshing the device list. Once PTFeeder appears, tap Connect. If prompted, tap Pair.
• 11. BLE SCANNER SAYS “DESCRIPTORS UNKNOWN”Solution: This message can appear when BLE Scanner is unable to properly access the Mini’s Bluetooth information. Close BLE Scanner 4.0 and try connecting to PTFeeder again. If the message continues to appear, restart the Mini by disconnecting it from power and reconnecting it, then try BLE Scanner again. If you still cannot connect, contact Pet Tutor® Support for assistance.

HARDWARE

• 12. MY MINI WON’T POWER ONSolution: Make sure the power cable is securely connected to the Mini and to a working power source. Check that the blue power light is on. If the light does not come on, try disconnecting the Mini from power and reconnecting it. If the Mini still does not power on, contact Pet Tutor® Support for assistance.
• 13. MY MOTOR ISN’T TURNINGSolution: Make sure your Pet Tutor® Mini and the device you are using to trigger it are turned on. Turn off any other Pet Tutor® devices nearby so you are only testing the Mini. Remove the UNO cartridge and check whether the motor pin is rotating when you trigger the Mini. If the motor still does not turn, use the BLE Scanner 4.0 instructions to send the Mini an “s” command. If the Mini still does not rotate after these steps, contact Pet Tutor® Support for assistance.
• 14. MY MINI ARRIVED DAMAGEDSolution: If your Pet Tutor® Mini arrived damaged, do not use the unit. Take photos of the damage and contact Pet Tutor® Support for assistance with a replacement or other next steps.
